JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides the opportunity to learn many different aspects of the concert industry.  The position may be responsible for assisting in all aspects of event management, including but not limited to planning, negotiation, organization, and production. This position also includes hours as an Office Assistant.  The Office Assistant keeps the office operating smoothly and minimizes interference, which allows the coordinators and advisors to work efficiently and without interruption.  The Office Assistant is the first contact and the first impression visitors have with our office; therefore, it is important to maintain a professional atmosphere.

  • Ability to establish and maintain relations with various students, staff, departments and the community
  • Ability to work within tight time constraints - ability to manage stress is key
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, willing to take the initiative to complete tasks
  • Ability to follow directions and multitask
  • UM student taking six or more credits and currently in good standing with the University

EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research routing and artist history (CD sales, ticket sales, etc) for potential shows
  • Network with other presenters in the region to identify booking possibilities
  • Actively promote and market programs/events to a broad, diverse audience
  • Attend employee meetings and training
    • Van Defensive Driving Course required or hold a current CDL with a passenger endorsement
  • Work with Concert Coordinator in fulfilling rider and other production requirements
    • May include duties such as being a runner, catering assistant, or merch seller, or attending production meetings and setting up production space
  • Answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate coordinator or program advisor
  • Assist walk-ins with inquiries
  • Collect and sort mail into appropriate mailboxes
  • Help keep common front areas clean and tidy
  • Help with hire paperwork and timecards
  • Other duties as assigned by the UM Productions Director and Advisors

IN RETURN YOU GET:

This position is an excellent opportunity to learn and work in the entertainment field, develop important business skills, and experience group dynamics.  This is a 12-month position which pays a wage based on $7.45 per hour up to 40 hours per pay period for all Assistant to the Concert Coordinator hours. The Assistant to the Concert Coordinator is responsible for his/her tasks, should the work load exceed 40 hours per pay period. All coordinators are encouraged to make arrangements for independent study or internship to tie into their appointment to augment their academic record. Of the 40 hours/pay period, The Assistant to the Concert Coordinator can be guaranteed up to 10 hours/week as an office assistant at an hourly wage of $7.15.
